It’s been a long, long ‘winter’ break. But, tomorrow it is finally over. We are pleased to say that we will re-open the Watermen’s Museum on June 10th 10 AM. We hope you’ll come see us.
You’ll be surprised at the changes we’ve made. The Gift Shop has gotten a complete face lift with new shelving, a lot of new inventory items, and a modern Point of Sale computer system. The exhibits have been changed a bit. and we’ve done some facility upgrades in the downstairs bathroom and upstairs office areas.
But, outdoors is where you’ll see the most change. We’ve been really busy installing security cameras, adding in new sidewalks, trimming hedges and trees, installing oyster shell mulch, planting grass and flowers, repairing our pier railings, installing a storage shed and a blacksmith forge shed, and much more.
But, the most important part of the Museum is still the great story we tell of the Watermen of the Chesapeake Bay. From the indigenous Virginia Indians, though colonial, Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, and the 20th Century, to today, professionals on the water have worked hard to feed and defend Americans.
