Waterman's Museum SignLocated on the Yorktown, Virginia waterfront just upriver from the Riverwalk shopping and dining area, the Watermen’s Museum is the perfect addition to your Historic Triangle visit.

Our mission is to demonstrate the role Chesapeake Bay Watermen, from pre-colonial to modern times, have played in the shaping of our nation.  We provide a historical display of exhibits, crafts and methods of their trade, and a look into their lives.

The Watermen’s Museum offers school and civic groups 13 different educational field trips and we conduct 8 summer children’s programs in Archaeology, Boatbuilding, Nature Explorer, Marine Explorer, All-About-Boats, Maritime Trades, Survivor Yorktown, and Pirate topics.  We also have a volunteer team that operates our Chesapeake Bay boat building program, constructing and refurbishing boats in our Boat Shop, and a boat modeler that works in our main gallery.

Our great little Gift Shop carries a variety of nautically-themed jewelry, books, T-shirts, hats, home and office decor and much more.  The Museum also offers rentals of its Carriage House, Events Tent and Deck, and our private Beachfront for corporate and private special events, weddings and receptions.

We’ve been voted 2018 Peninsula Gold for our Summer Camps by Coastal Virginia Magazine, 2018 Best Small Museum by Chesapeake Bay Magazine, and 2019 Best Wedding Venue by Coastal Virginia Magazine.  Come by for a visit, browse our site, or contact us for more details on any of our program and rental offerings.

Our Museum is a small organization doing great big things.  But, we need your help.  Your donations help us teach many more children and adults about the Maritime history surrounding the Virginia Indians, Yorktown as a major colonial port, the Battle of Yorktown and the on-going rediscovery of the Cornwallis Fleet shipwrecks, the American Civil War, and more.  Kids also learn first-hand about Environmental Stewardship, the seafood bounty of the Chesapeake Bay, and the role commercial Watermen have played in harvesting and guarding the Bay.  Please help us through a small donation.

The Watermen’s Museum has a nondiscrimination policy that the organization, our staff, and our working volunteers will not, by policy or practice, discriminate against any person or group on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity and expression, national origin, age, disability,  marital or military status, or based on any individual’s status in any group or class protected by applicable federal, state or local law.
