On May 9th you will have a special opportunity to donate to your local charities. We hope you will participate in this Peninsula campaign called “Give Local 757“. During this 24 hour period, May 9th from Midnight – Midnight you can go to www.givelocal757.org web site and make your donation to registered Peninsula charities. We hope you’ll consider us as one of your charitable donations.
This year’s Give Local 757 is the fourth annual event to benefit our region’s nonprofits. Building on the momentum generated over the past 3 years, the 2017 campaign aims to make an even greater impact! This year, our region’s collective goal for the nonprofit sector is $1M in 24 hours from 20,000 donors on May 9th, and your support can help us get there!
As many of you know, our mission is to demonstrate the role Chesapeake Bay Watermen, from pre-colonial to modern times, have played in the shaping of our nation. We provide historical displays and exhibits, discuss crafts and methods of their trade, and a look deeply into their lives on the Bay. The Watermen’s Museum offers school and civic groups programs, 13 different educational field trips, and we conduct six summer children’s programs, such as All-About-Boats, Maritime Trades, Archaeology, Boatbuilding, Nature Explorer, and Pirate Camp programs. We also have a volunteer team that operates our Chesapeake Bay boat building program, constructing and refurbishing boats ranging from a two-person skiff to restoring a Chesapeake Bay Deadrise Workboat or a Log Canoe. Our Festivals and educational classes, and special events highlight the history, culture, music, working tools and the very lives of regional maritime people over the last 400 years.
With your support we plan to continue our existing programs, expand our educational offerings to local children and adults, and perform some much needed maintenance on our facilities and exhibits. Please help us meet our goals!
How you can help on May 9th :
1) Make a donation (starting as small as $10) to the Watermen’s Museum by going to www.givelocal757.org and selecting the Watermen’s Museum as a charity
2) Spread the word. Tell your friends, post on Facebook, Twitter, and every other place you can think of. This is an opportunity to make a major impact for us and other charities. We are striving for a goal of $10,000. Help us get there!
